Working Harder For You, those four simple words have embodied the customer centric mentality of Colorado based Rampart Plumbing & Heating Supply since its early days. Anyone could sell plumbing supplies, but Joe Perry’s vision for Rampart Supply focused on two key principles: genuine relationships and immense inventory.
The year was 1968, when Joe Perry, a WWII vet, set out on a quest to build his own plumbing supply house. Identifying a gap in the market Joe saw an opportunity to be the supply house that provided the absolute best service and offered the largest and most diversified inventory in Colorado. With very little money, a lot of hard work, some great people, and bit of good luck, Joe’s vision became a reality when he purchased an old ice house building in downtown Colorado Springs. His affinity for the Front Range inspired the business name and Rampart Plumbing & Heating Supply, Inc. was born.
Since its humble beginnings, the Rampart Supply name has been linked to integrity, passion, and a strong sense of community. As a local, family owned and operated company, philanthropy and community involvement have long been a staple of Rampart Supply’s core values. They have generously supported numerous local non-profit organizations and charities as they feel it is essential to give back in order to help strengthen their community and local economy.
Rampart’s attentive approach to customer service and commitment to excellence have helped forge extraordinary relationships within their industry and their communities. They recognize the need for a personal touch and are committed to adding value to each and every interaction. Rampart customers rest-assured that they not only get the best products in the industry; they get the best products supported by passionate people who strive to go above and beyond, always “working harder for you”….
With relationships at the forefront of every business interaction, Joe Perry formed a significant friendship with Max Good the owner of Water Systems, Inc a plumbing supply house in Denver, Colorado. The two men were like minded in their principles and business practices and soon began trading products as well as tricks of the trade. Fast-forward a couple of decades, and Rampart Supply was presented with an opportunity to join forces with Water Systems, Inc. The acquisition of Water Systems in 1996 proved to be a savvy business decision and made for a mutually beneficial partnership between the two family-run wholesalers. Both companies shared similar values and a strong desire to take care of their customers and their employees.
Another opportunity for growth presented itself in the Pueblo market and Rampart Supply methodically chose to open a third branch. With a dedicated team of passionate individuals, Rampart Supply Pueblo opened its doors in 2011 and has been forging tremendous relationships within the community ever sense.
Along the way, Joe’s sons Colin and Kevin, his son-in-law John, and later his grandson James all became involved in the company, each of them possessing an entrepreneurial spirit, a great deal of enthusiasm for the business and a knack for forming genuine connections. Today, Joe, Kevin and John have all retired. Colin Perry—President, and James Perry—Vice President, are leading the way and inspiring excellence among Rampart’s multi-generational workforce.
At a time when many companies struggle with employee retention, Rampart’s family business model and their adherence to creating valuable relationships have supported a culture of trust and empowerment where numerous employees have remained loyal for more than 25 years and those just joining the team are eager to get a decade or two under their belts. “The owners have been fair, flexible, and honest, earning a degree of loyalty where I would never want to let them down.” –Rampart Supply Employee
In half a century in business, Rampart Supply has progressed into a local leader in the plumbing and heating supply industry. From its inception as a small plumbing supply house with 3 employees, Rampart Supply has grown into a company with 3 branches, over 500,000 square feet of stocked shelves, 3 stunning showrooms, and more than 250 employees serving the great state of Colorado. Presently, Rampart’s core business includes plumbing, hydronic heating and industrial Pipe, Valve, & Fittings (PVF), serving residential, commercial, and various industrial and facility maintenance sectors. They were named Supply House Time’s 2010 Wholesaler of the Year, Colorado Springs Gazette’s 2017 Best Workplaces, and have graciously received a number of accolades over the years for their philanthropic endeavors as well as industry specific honors.
The Rampart story has evolved over the last 50 years; however, a constant has remained at the heart of their business model: invest in what matters. They recognize their business exists, above all, because of their focus on recruiting and retaining the very best people, committing to a deep and diverse local inventory, and doing right by their customers, suppliers and their community. With their innate passion for excellence and a company culture based on one enduring intangible – relationships, Rampart Supply looks to the future with optimism and excitement!
